Overview

H-E-B Digital Fulfillment is looking for a seasoned and driven Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a proven track record of engineering success.  Our fulfillment partners (employees) collaborate to design, construct, implement and support everything H-E-B Curbside and Delivery. You will work closely with shared services teams, platform engineering, software engineering teams, and our operations partners to maximize reliability, availability, and efficiency of our systems, and improve workflow, automation, and scalability.

What is the work? 

• Develops and maintains tooling used for environment monitoring and task automation 
• Engages in and improves whole lifecycle of services, including inception and design, deployment, operation, and refinement 
• Analyzes and establishes efficient configurations for software and servers, DB connections, indexes, drivers, etc. 
• Collaborates with development teams to design service architectures, software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, release plans and launch reviews
• Monitors internal and vendor service level objectives (SLOs) and agreements (SLAs); identifies and resolves SLO / SLA gaps 
• Serves as technical subject matter expert (SME) for cross-functional engineering Teams; assists with and troubleshoots systems-related issues and maintenance 

• Collaborates on maintaining services once they are live; measures and monitors availability, latency, and overall system health 
• Coordinates with technical and non-technical Partners and clients to determine business requirements 
• Practices sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems 
• Documents and promotes H-E-B standards and procedures
• Coach and mentor junior engineers and fellow practitioners

What is your background? 

• A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience involving software / systems engineering
• Require 5+ years of professional engineering experience developing, managing, or supporting distributed systems
• Require 3+ years of SRE experience managing Google Kubernetes Engine, K8s, or AWS environments (GKE preferred)
• Prefer 2+ years of Java (Spring) programming experience

• Experience with tools such as Gitlab, JIRA, Slack, Confluence and Intellij

• Experience working with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, GCP, Terraform, and APIs using REST and GraphQL
• Experience with Helm charts and deployments

• Experience working with monitoring and visualization tools such as Datadog, Grafana, and New Relic

• Experience with microservices architecture patterns
• Strong proficiency with scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, Groovy, and Bash
• Proven track record of researching, understanding, and effectively applying Scalability and High Availability principles
• Exhibits a team and partner first mentality
