Our Design team is dedicated to designing and delivering integrated, highly creative, and innovative retail environments crafted to maximize H-E-B's brand commitment.

As an Refrigeration Engineer, you'll implement design solutions that are creative, impactful, and influence the character of H-E-B's brand and retail environments. You'll collaborate with internal and external design teams to ensure they are delivering on-time, quality documents that meet H-E-B's design criteria and budget. In this role, you'll help identify and advance innovative technologies that lower H-E-B's total cost of ownership and enhance our Customer's experience across all retail channels.

We are looking for:
- a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 6+ years of retail engineering experience

What is the work?
Engineering:
- Researches / analyzes design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of design
- Works with Construction team to resolve outstanding issues; recommends best to fix or remove issue
- Performs field inspections to review construction work for conformance with design drawings, applicable codes, and company policies
- Ensures work is done to meet all applicable codes in accordance with international and local regulatory requirements
- Participates in an information-sharing forum with H-E-B consulting engineers
- Works with Real Estate on site locations
- Maintains civil / site design standards, including water quality / re-irrigation utility infrastructure, mass grading, retaining walls, landscape, offsite roadway improvements, parking lots, impact fees
- Analyzes construction costs for civil works
- Checks construction documents for completeness / correctness
- Serves as a liaison to Real Estate; reviews lease contracts, easements
- Determines / maintains H-E-B sustainability standards, including coordination of LEED submittals and communication to others
- Assists in establishing maintenance standards
- Works day-to-day with consulting engineers
- Assists design architects with questions and concepts
- Provides technical assistance to contractors

Project Management:
- Accountable for overall timeline, milestones and project management for projects
- Manages projects from conception through completion, while effectively communicating with consultants and processing change
- Manages a defined program of information to create design solutions
- Performs code research and assessment, including ADA, sanitation and building codes, and environmental regulations
- Makes project site visits; recognizes, documents, resolves design issues for compliance with design intent and the construction documents
- Researches / provides assessment of building materials applications
- Manages / prepares documentation for hand off to consultants, including equipment specifications, floor plans, building detail, site and exterior elevations
- Applies understanding of project schedules and work processes; manages to schedules / deadlines
- Proactively pursues cost savings

What is your background?
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in retail engineering
- Professional engineer's license in the state of Texas (preferred)

Do you have what it takes to be a fit as an H-E-B Engineer?
- Strong understanding of building systems and their coordination / integration (structural, architectural, MEPR), building codes, environmental regulations, handicap accessibility codes and their direct application, sanitation concerns, regulations, and applications, dynamics / application of site and landscape design, appropriate materials use / methods of construction, and specifications and criteria development
- Project management skills
- Computer application / software skills, including AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects
- Ability to use 2D / 3D presentation graphics
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and collaborative work style in a fast-paced retail environment
