What you’ll do at HEB:


As part of the Foundational Technology – Cloud Engineering team you would play a key role in the efforts that have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of IT operations by optimizing cloud resources in AWS, Azure & GCP, improving deployment processes, and enhancing overall system performance.

 

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the efforts that will take our cloud platforms to the next level. We are looking for an Engineer who is deeply knowledgeable as a Cloud Architect and with a strong focus on cloud networking, multi-cloud technology and with an ability to articulate the cloud value proposition in both technical and financial aspects. Being a member of the Cloud Engineering Team, you’d be part of a skilled and motivated team - designing, building, maintaining, and improving the automation of reporting cloud cost and optimization opportunities across our public cloud. As a Cloud Staff Software Engineer, you will be an integral member of the team continuously innovating and improving our cloud network and security posture, while helping to drive a culture of best practice and accountability and across H-E-B engineering in the cloud.

 

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance around architectural best practices that help elevate performance, reliability, operations and security as pillars of the Well-Architected Framework
  • Influence and help achieve our enterprise infrastructure strategy and goals across all of H-E-B Digital
  • Provide strong problem-solving skills and experience in resolving cloud-related issues
  • Design and implement strategies for using multiple cloud providers
  • Run architectural design sessions to build a plan for implementing solutions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, manage and optimize for seamless integrations across cloud infrastructure components
  • Focusing on automation & infrastructure development to build out scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions using multiple cloud platforms
  • Coaching and mentoring other engineers in techniques, architecture, processes, and new technologies; enabling others to succeed
  • Creating documentation and training related to technology stacks and standard

Who You Are

  • Have strong infrastructure architecture experience using multiple cloud platforms, such as AWS, GCP, Azure as well as on-premises infrastructure
  • Have in-depth knowledge of DNS services, including Route 53, Azure DNS, and other cloud-native DNS solutions
  • Exceptional understanding of multi-cloud networking principles, VPCs, subnets, security groups, and network ACLs
  • Have mastery of one or more programming languages (we use Python, Go, Java, and Typescript primarily) as well as frameworks and design patterns
  • Have a passion for architectural engineering and maximizing the of the clouds. Our mission is to get the most value of every dollar spent in the cloud
  • Experienced with collaboration and analysis of new service offerings with different cloud vendors
  • Strong database knowledge and proven experience with data analysis, database design, data visualization and data ETL processes
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Have a solid understanding of infrastructure as code (we use Terraform), and are comfortable managing resource lifecycles with these tools
  • Are familiar with consuming as well as designing/implementing RESTful APIs
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment, using modern development methodologies and processes
  • Have at least 4+ years of experience as a Senior Software Cloud Engineer or Architect
  • Have 7+ years of application development experience
  • Have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies
  • Cloud Architect/Network Certifications
